The population charts.

Who is top of the population charts? Until recently the answer would have been China, but they have just been overtaken by their neighbour India. Apparently China had been overestimating the population by some ninety million people. So the current numbers are for India 1.33 billion and China 1.29 million. These figures comes from Dr Yi of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He wrote a book that was published recently entitled Big Country with an Empty Nest. The one child policy of China, that was born in 1979 has been a disaster for the demographic balance of the country. There are too many men chasing the few women available. Although that policy has now been abandoned, the impact is still having an effect. There has been regional rivalry between these two giants for generations, but hopefully that can find a modus vivendi.
