Smoking not only seriously damages your health it plunges your family into poverty.
According to research by Dr Langley at the University of Nottingham Centre for Tobacco and Alcohol Studies a staggering 430,000 children and families are plunged into poverty by the self indulgence of their parents smoking. A wooping on average £50 a week is spent on the habit. If the government was serious is seeking to assist people addicted to the habit they would help the families on two counts: better health and more disposable income. The poor spend disproportionally more on average of their meagre incomes on their addition. Alcohol is another source of income disadvantage. However when John Reid (now Lord) was Secretary of State for Health between 2003-2005 he said that "his mother needed her fags" and he consequently he wouldn't support a ban on smoking in public places like Bingo halls. The establishment are generally of the opinion that the poor will always be with us as Carl Marx suggested. So consequently there is little one can do for the irremediable lumpenproletariat.
