Another five years.
Not since John Major was PM have we had a Conservative majority in parliament back in 1992. So we have all the Gilbert and Sullivan pantomime ceremony today at the Palace of Varieties for the Queen's Speech at the Sate Opening. I say all this in jest as I'm now a convert of the monarchy having in my past been a Republican. However Tony Blair killed off that ambition when I realised he might be the president. All the wigs, robes and trumpets are a wonderful demonstration of the Queen in Parliament. The various aspects of the state are all represented: the sovereign, the executive the legislature and the judiciary. Its the combination of all these elements of the cats-cradle of our constitution that are on show. Its strange how I'm now in favour of all the flummery, but I'am. Perhaps its my age now that I'm 72?
