The dangers of too much sugar for your health.

The is increasing evidence to support the hypothesis that too much sugar is a serious cause of health problems like diabetes and obesity. The front page of The Daily Telegraph today has an article about its dangers. We are all encouraged to have as a minimum five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Unfortunately many people are taking this literally and making their dose of five daily into - fizzie or fruit drinks. These drinks contain too much sugar. This coupled with insufficient exercise is another health time bomb waiting to go off further down the line. What can be done? There needs to be a 'strong consistent message over time' from government departments, parents, schools, teachers, food and drink producers, fast food outlets, supermarkets, general practitioners, pediatricians, health experts, dietitians, sports coaches, universities and others connect to the health industry to the - dangers of too much sugar in our daily diets. Its not a quick fix for a lack of energy. Think of the advertisement for Mars confectionery, its a chocolate bar full of sugar and nothing else. Unless we take action now in only a few years time there will be unsustainable demands on the NHS. In terms cost benefit analysis on a longitudinal basis this could bankrupt the NHS.
