Charles Marowitz who died on the 2nd May was an innovator in the world of theatre. He and Thelma Holt started the Open Space Theatre in a basement 1968 on Tottenham Court Road. I first met him in the summer of 1970 when I worked with Roland Rees as assistant director on a play by Mike Welland
Now There's Just The Three of Us. As an American who brought a blast of fresh air to the London theatre world in the late sixties, his death is a sad reminder that there are so few that are distinctive in their originality.
