BBC Two at 50.

I fear BBC Two is having a late mid-life crisis. Its certainly lost its way caught between BBC One and popular scheduling and now BBC Four the so called 'Waitrose viewer'. What's is the point of BBC Two? The only reason I ever watch the channel is for Newsnight. I think the wrong decision was made to cull BBC Three, the home of the younger viewer of between 25-35, but they are the next generation of potential supporters of the licence fee. So where does BBC Two pitch its tent? Its lost the more sophisticated audience. Last night we had that extraordinary German film of the demise of Hitler Downfall. And more recently a bunch of excellent foreign crime noir programmes. We have had over the last few nights some footage of the 'good old days' on BBC Two with: Not Only but Also; Late Night Review; Pot Black; Match of the Day etc, so there were times when this channel was relevant and topical but not any longer. The boffins at the BBC should sharpen their pencils and do more thinking and come up with better results. My report card says - can do better and they should otherwise it should also be culled.
