The London Film Festival concludes on Sunday.
Its been another cornucopia of delights at the 57th London Film Festival (LFF) that will conclude on Sunday. Unlike other other events of this nature the LFF gathers together a whole batch of films from across the world. Its more than a 'shop widow' for the industry its the only one that allows the public into its viewing pleasures. Watching last night on BBC 2 the Culture Show: A Night at the London Film Festival gave a flavor of what was on offer. There is a lot to see that is worth while, I won't try to compile a list as it would too long. On a different note there has over recent months been a culling of film critics in the media. The Independent on Sunday has killed off the whole of its arts critical section. The rationale appears to be that its not cost effect to have these critics, as it can now be read online. However few would argue with the fact that the matchless knowledge of Philip French of the Observer made reading that paper worth while. So his retirement a few weeks ago was a great loss. Perhaps in a few years time they will all go the way of the Dodo
