Malala.
For someone so young, she is only sixteen, she has shown remarkable courage and fortitude, despite threats to her life. In the Swat Valley in Pakistan last year, on her way to school, she was sitting at the back of the bus when a gunman from the Taliban arrived and shot her in the head and neck. She almost died, and eventually found herself in a Birmingham hospital receiving life saving surgery. Since that date 9/10/2012 she has recovered and made her mission in life to persuade young people across the world about the importance of education. Having watched her on TV Malala is a very remarkable person. Clearly very intelligent and articulate she has now met many world leaders including president Obama. She spoke movingly recently at the United Nations General Assembly to a packed attentive audience. Watch a very good programme about her on BBC1 Panorama: Shot for Going to School.
