The BBC is in a mess of its own making.
Watching the seven top knobs of the BBC on Monday before the Public Accounts Committee, chaired by the redoubtably Margaret Hodge, was not an edifying sight. To think these are the so called - 'great and the good' - are in charge of the shop, fills me with despair. If the Royal Charter that is up for renewal in a few years time doesn't make dramatic changes to this dysfunctional organisation - I will be amazed. What has gone wrong was clearly stated on Newsnight by Lord Michael Grade when he said to Jeremy Paxman - " there is no sense of the value of money". The BBC gets a big fat cheque in April of some £3.5 billion that they haven't done a thing for and 'bobs your uncle'. I can foresee the end of the BBC coming over the horizon, and they have only themselves to blame for their hubris, mendacity and poor management.
