Britain
Britain is becoming more of a melting-pot according to data released by the 2011 census. The most English place in Britain is the small enclave of Canvey Island in Essex, the residents claim there to be 80% English. In the borough of Harrow in outer London 41.6 cent say they are British. If you are young and second generation immigrant you are more likely to say you are British. Being British is an umbrella term, all can be included under it. While being English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish is limited to geography. What are we to make of this latest information? What will happen next September with the referendum on Scottish independence? The latest data suggests that more in Scotland define themselves as Scottish than British. How will this then impact on the rest of the UK if they go there own way? I don't think English politicians have yet woken up to the momentous changes that could befall this country in less that a year from now. The political adroit and savvy Alex Salmond is running rings round the naive and gullible David Cameron. I'm sure the Queen is - not amused - by the idea of the breakup of Britain.
