Was it worth all the blood, sweat and tears?
The announcement at the end of the G8 Summit that there will now be the start of talks between the US and Taliban in Doha is to some an act of treason, after all blood sweat and tears. Was the war in Afghanistan worth it? Much loss of life on the Afghan side, the US and allied forces, not to mention the vast cost in many millions of dollars. It always ends with a - hand shake. We see that it all wars and we saw that in Northern Ireland, and the one time terrorists are now running the country and one is deputy first minister. The UK will pull out all its troops from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. If I had lost a son or daughter in the bloody senseless war, I would be very angry. Some will argue we would not be here unless there had been that loss, but in my opinion that is a spurious justification for war. This argument will go back and forth by politicians and military historians for years to come. Hopefully this is the beginning of the end. No wonder there is little appetite for another war - this time in Syria.
