75 years ago the Kindertransport saved many Jewish children.

Last night the Prince of Wales met some of the few remaining survivors of the heroic Kindertransport at St James's Palace. Most of the children would never see their parents again when they left their own countries like Poland. Jews across Europe were being rounded up and put into concentration camps, and then murdered. Thankfully the British government allowed many to enter this country. I have a personal interest in this historic event. My psychoanalyst escaped to the UK from Germany, her parents never made it, neither did her psychoanalyst. When I was in Frankfurt in the mid 1960's - I would often be confronted with this historical fact when on the tram going to work - the person next to me might have a tattooed number on their arm. This was one of the reasons I volunteered for the Six Day War in Israel in 1967, believing the Jewish people had a right to exist. The Jews have brought to Britain much joy, friendship and culture. All our lives have benefited from their arrival 75 years ago on the Kindertransport.
