Punching above our weight.

According to Professor Sir Paul Nurse in The Times today the president of the Royal Society - the oldest scientific institution in the world - Britain leads the way in the natural sciences. Moreover on a per capita basis we outstrip all other nations. We can be rightly proud in this country that we do indeed 'punch above our weight' in this particular area. We have had more Nobel prizes winners that all other countries, other than the US. This prestige is not easily won and needs constant government finance, and thankfully they have put their hands in their pockets and come up with the necessary money. Nevertheless we cannot sit back on our laurels and assume this will continue into the future, we must make this clear to all politicians, that support must always be found. We have four of the top ten universities for science in the world, Cambridge alone has more Nobel prize winners than the whole of France.
