For those out there not familiar with the US term synonymous with political chicanery shenanigans and double dealing the art of - pork barrel politics - is something in 2015 we may have to deal with as we approach the election. The idea comes from 1863 when politicians in America did many favours for their constitutes on the clear understanding that they would be gladly rewarded in the ballot box. Just so come next year when each vote will mean either the keys to Downing Street or the bobby prize of coming second. We can write off Clegg as he may be decapitated in Sheffield by Labour who are pulling out all the stops to unseat this hapless naive and gullible politician.
Lets hope the good people of Britain will not be duped by these political sweetmeats and inducements. We have good memories of promises made and not kept. To name but one - Clegg and tuition fees - need I say more? Despite these anxieties we must vote as this is a right fought over many generations. So lets get out there and put the cross. I say this as I will be standing as a Parish Councillor in May.
