Hunger and food poverty in the UK.

How is it possible that in a country highly rated and member of the elite G7 group of major economies in the world that we now have an epidemic of food banks? The Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Welby has attacked this extraordinary turn of events. The Conservative and Lid/Dems coalition is responsible for the unhappy situation. What will they do about is apart from wring their collective pious hands? As we approach Christmas and are reminded that the Christ child had to start his life in a stables with his mother and father and shared it with the animals. We should like him show more charity to those less fortunate than ourselves. The Trussell Trust have said about this epidemic of food banks are a 'stain on our conscience' in this country. Last year there were some 347,00 food parcels handed out this year the total so far is a staggering 913,000.
When I was a social worker in Islington in the 1970's I came across some poverty, but nothing like this. Karl Marx said that the proletarians and poor are always with us, but not to this extent. Despite this underclass they must be addressed immediately and given sufficient food. Hunger and food poverty are a scar on the face of the nation and disfigure us all.
