Are we putting the clock back as we develop a new base for the Royal Navy in Bahrain. The Defence Secretary Michael Fallon will today fly out to sign all the contracts. Do we really need this new facility for the navy? The Middle East is a crisis spot and is in turmoil so there is clearly an agrument to say this is a good use of scarce resources - nevertheless is it us again trying to 'punch above our weight'? I fear its the same old issue. Perhaps behind the scenes the US have been putting us under pressure as they don't wont to be the lone copper of the international beat? This is us being the lap dog of Obama, but him and DC are chums so who is going to grumble? Only the poor old tax payer but who listens to us?
On the other hand the US military have changed their focus to the Far East and China as their main cause of fear and anxiety. The international problems are all moving further to the east and the South China Sea. In addition Japan and China have always had a fractious relationship, so nothing new there. In human history there never appears to be a time when we are all mates at the same time. There is always so silly bugger messing things up.
