The Rosetta Comet Mission landed on Wednesday.
This project of scientific and solar engineering is a piece of work that is in the same realm as getting the chaps onto the surface of the moon. The European Space Project kicked off now some 30 years ago, but is was ten years ago that Rosetta stated its long journey to comet 67P. The probe robot Philae that landed yesterday was pure science fiction made into science fact. There have been one or two problems as there would be with a project of this ambition, but nevertheless it will hopefully send back important information about the comet and is make-up. Could there be frozen water there, the basic building block for life? The comet was some 500 million km from earth so just being able to land on this object whizzing through space was extraordinary. Like jumping on a moving train going at super speed. So those involved in the endeavour must feel justifiable pride in what they have all achieved.
