Black Power List 2014.
The latest Power List is out for black people - at the top is the Chief Executive Officer Karen Blackett of www.mediacom.com. This company is one of the largest in the world in media and the biggest in the UK. She as a black person has made it to the top despite some racism on the way up, but nothing compared to what her father a bus driver in Reading and her mother a nurse experienced. They encouraged her to work hard and aim for the very top. In the UK 12% are from the black and ethnic minority, but they are slowly increasing there influence. An important pressure group is Black Vote which seeks to get more black and ethnic minorities into parliament. There representation has greatly increased over the last few years from time when Diane Abbott was the first black MP. Nevertheless there is still a long way to go, but we are on the right course. Until we have a more representative number of black and ethnic minority citizens in the ranks of the British establishment little objectively will have changed.
