This revolutionary Pope has an important meeting on Sunday as he seeks to address the endemic corruption, nepotism and child abuse scandals that have overwhelmed this ossified system for years - change or die? He rang an intellectual chap of the left a Mr Scalfari a few weeks ago for a chat and was able to convince this 90 year that he meant business. Lets wait and see - there are so many vested interested in the status quo that change will be an Sisyphean task even for this Pope. The very future of the Catholic Church is at stake as we enter a brave new world.
The family and the role of the celebrate priest are all up for grabs. The Church of England by contrast is more nimble and able to move with the rapidly changing times and is therefore unlike the Catholic Church that is Canute like it its view of the world order.
As someone who is deeply skeptical of the real motivation of the majority of the people in Rome. I have little confidence in their ability or wish to change - too many cosy jobs deepened on things staying the same in this comatose state.
