Laws on drugs just don't work.

After years and years of discussion the Lib/Dems have said what we already know the present 'war on drugs' don't work. This political football has been kicked all over the ground for over 40 years or so. I worked some years ago as a volunteer for the drugs charity Release and it was obvious back then the police were wasting their and own time. However the Conservatives in government are worried that UKip will accuse them of going 'soft on drugs' despite the empirical evidence that things aren't working. Moreover there is a whole industry standing on the shoulders of the illicit use of drugs. What would all these enforcement officers do with their spare time? So much money is wasted on pursuing dealers in drugs, when the money can be better spent. If drugs were made into a health issue and not a criminal one, we would start to make some progress. This is just not going to happen at the moment in this feverish political climate. So more lives will be lost to drugs when they could be saved.
