I watched the debate in the commons on Friday and was impressed with the serious and sober contributions by all members. I thought Ed Miliband struck the right note talking IS as both a willful menace to British national interests and to our citizens. Moreover Miliband recognized the risks to the region of the Middle East that is now a powder keg waiting to go off. How has it come to this where a nightmare scenario has unfolded with IS living in the brutal dark ages? This is a perversion of the Islamic faith. Many are now waking up to what a serious threat it is to Muslims across the globe. This perversion is so disgusting that words are difficult to find for its atrocities. The closest we have come in recent history are the Nazi party in Germany under that madman Hitler. IS and the Nazi can now be put in the same box. They are ruthless butchers and psychotic maniacs.
Michael Fallon the Secretary of State for Defence has suggested this potentially is a fight that could last a generation. Not a happy thought. The underpinning issue for IS - is finding the rational world of relative values impossible to contemplate. Their theocracy hates 'modernity' in all its forms - apart from social media. Modernity is the enemy of also other faiths like Catholicism.
The Church of England is less phased as it seeks to modernise, by having women priests and eventually female bishops and perhaps one day a female Archbishop of Canterbury. Darwin was right - adapt and evolve or die out!
