Boris Johnson playing again to the gallery.
The British clown of politics the mayor of London Boris Johnson is playing to the gallery again with his article in The Daily Telegraph on Monday seeking even more draconian powers for the state. He wants those Muslims who return from Iraq or Syria to 'give an account of themselves' while they were away. If no credible story is forthcoming he wants their passports relinquish immediately. Apart from anything else this is against the law as it would at a stroke make them stateless. Moreover its a disproportionate 'knee jerk reaction' to this crisis. We all know Boris has eyes on the top job in politics. If his so called chum and Eton, Bullingdon Club Oxford drinking mate Cameron fell under the London bus after the general election in 2015? The chap most happy would be Boris who wants his job as prime minister. The one time chief of counter-terrorism both MI5 and MI6 Richard Barrnett says quite categorically these 'new power are not necessary'. In addition the former attorney general Dominic Grieve QC warns against rushing into these interpenetrate reactions that are palpably disproportionate and would indeed by counter productive and have 'unforeseen consequence' especially alienating the Muslim law abiding communities in the whole country.
