MH 17 shot down by who?

There is increasing exasperation with the Russian government and president Putin in particular with the lack of candor regarding the shooting down of the Malaysian airline flight MH 17 that left Amsterdam on route for the Far East - as it crossed international airspace was shot down. The mystery is by whom and why? The two 'black boxes' have been taken somewhere but no one knows just where they are? All the fingers are pointing at Putin. With the murder of 298 of international passengers there is now 'uproar' across the world because the skies are not safe when flying in this region of the eastern Ukraine. Putin now finds himself in a 'hole' of his own making. He must come up with a convincing narrative as to how this happened, otherwise he will be a 'pariah' even more than he is today. The entrails are not promising given his 'track record' of obfuscation, bluster and bullying. His bellicosity has now come back to haunt him. Does he care? Well the sanctions that the US has imposed on international credit are having and effect and the European Union could follow suite thus pushing the Russian economy closer to the edge. There are already many structural problems that need addressing urgently and without finance from abroad these just cannot happen. They are too reliant on oil and gas for their revenues and they need to rapidly diversify otherwise they will fall further behind their competitors. Some illogical historians argued that after the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 this was the 'end of history' - how wrong they all were.
Russia has for too long been associated in the public imagination with lawlessness banditry thuggery and the Mafia, now this notoriety is the 'last thing they need' for stability at home and abroad. The chickens have come home to roost Mr Putin.
