What's the point of the BBC?

Today in the multi-media world, in my opinion there is no - point in the BBC unless they are doing something unique - that other broadcasters are not doing. In the initial remit the rationale for the BBC was to - inform, educate and entertain. Last night we had the second in a new series of dramas by the writer Jimmy McGovern Accused and jolly good entertainment is was. The cast was excellent with Anne-Marie Duff and Olivia Coleman playing the lead characters - Mo and Sue respectively. Set on a grim housing estate, where gang rule was the order of the day, and gun crime top of the list. There was little to recommend the area apart for the inhabitants, and in particular the - Mums Against Guns - pressure group. The likelihood of getting into criminal behaviour is such a setting is very high, and the tension was well drawn by McGovern. The BBC does have a role when producing things of this quality, it should make sure that it continues in this vein - otherwise its support will eventually evaporate in this - brave new world. Two reasons that make Britain a relatively civilized county are the BBC and the NHS.
