The brutal killing of the National Front.
Last night I witnessed the - brutal killing of the National Front at the hands of that magnificent British sportsman originally from war torn Somalia - Mo Farah. If there was any debate left by the right wing in this country - then it was demolished last night in the 5,000m final. His understanding of the tactics, coupled with his extraordinary physical ability - left those behind not able to win. Moreover the country at large has taken him to their collective hearts. Seeing him with his family - made the win even more poignant as they have had to tolerate so much in order to enable him to succeed. As he received his gold medal and the national anthem was played - tears came to my eyes. Multi-cultural Britain is at last coming to terms with the fact that we are now mosaic nation. Another interesting feature of these games is to make explicit the fact that London is now a global city - its also made the world a smaller place. Last night on BBC 2 there was an excellent programme London: The Modern Babylon - telling this story in such a way that made sense to us all. This mirror is held up - and we can be rightly proud of what we have been achieved - despite the foreboding prognostications of that right wing politician - Enoch Powell all those years ago. The biggest division now in London - is not between black and white, but between - rich and poor!
