Every drama needs a good set.
One of the many pleasures of the London Olympics is - London. We have seen some of our most illustrious architectural gems in all their glory. I particularly like - Wellington Arch - watching them cycle through the arch in the Triathlon was a delight. Other great sets have been - Tower Bridge, Buckingham Palace, Hampton Court, Horse Guards, Greenwich Park, Hyde Park, the London Eye and of course St Paul's - is always in the background. In the road race - seeing them all zooming through Richmond Park was fantastic, it made London into a village - which it is. Another big plus have been the army of dedicated citizens volunteering their time and energy. I must say that my experience of them has been very positive, they are invariable friendly and helpful. Whoever picked and trained them has done an excellent job. I read the other day that many volunteers at previous Olympics have given up after a few days and drifted away, this apparently is not the case in London. What is about this one that is different? When I was at the Royal Academy the other day acting as a volunteer there, I chatted to one of them and he was very positive about the organisation of the Olympics and the whole process of recruitment, training etc. So there we are - look after your volunteers and they will look after us.
