Tabula Rasa.

 After WW2 the then Labour government under the leadership of Clement Attlee - sort to create a tabular rasa a new Jerusalem - in Englands green and pleasant land. Nevertheless given the serious economic conditions at the time - we were essentially bankrupt and dependent on the largesse and support of the American government under Harry Truman. Under the so called - Lend Lease programme they helped us out of the financial - black hole. To understand the complexity of these underlying themes a good place to start is to listen to the podcast on BBC Sounds PostWar introduced by David Runcimam. The 20 part shows - has archived recordings of the leading politicians at the time including: Churchill, Roosevelt, Attlee and others. It gives a good overview of the atmosphere surrounding how decisions were made like the establishment of: NHS, Arts Council, United Nations, NATO, World Bank, IMF, Security Council etc. I highly recommend this podcast - if you want to comprehend the modern world and Britain’s part and role in it.
