King Richard III.

I watched the service from Leicester Cathedral last night regarding the receiving of the body of King Richard III and it was a most moving ceremony. Cardinal Vincent Nichols gave the sermon paying tribute to the last king - killed in battle at Bosworh Field in 1485 at the age of 32. We have become familiar with the rogue Richard from Shakespeare's play. However he has over the years been much maligned unnecessarily for his pains. The controversy over the killing in the Tower of London of his nephews has long been discussed. Suffice it to say there is still no agreement as to who was ultimately responsible for the heinous act. So until Thursday the public can show their respects as the coffin will be in the centre of the cathedral. On Thursday there will be a reinternment in a tomb in the Chapel of Christ the King in a newly erected area in the east of the cathedral. A service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. So the City of Leicester is now synonymous with King Richard III. May he rest in peace.
