Spitting Image at 30.

When Spitting Image was at the height of its popularity it pulled in some 14 million regular viewers. The first episode was in the beginning of 1984 and was a virulent lampooning and satire on the then Conservative government led by Mrs Thatcher. The redoubtable Norman Tebbit was known as the Chingford skin head, dressed in black leather and looking every bit the 'bother boy' he was. He would often resort to violence on the request of the Dear Leader. Today we are governed by boys in grey suits who have done nothing other than run a PR company pre-becoming prime minister. Its as if the Orwellian 1984 has taken root in Downing Street. Why is is all so spineless today? Is it to do with the post-2008 economic crash - where everyone is now more worried about getting of the property ladder before it totally disappears altogether?
Moreover the BBC are now so worried about the Charter renewal they are terrified about upsetting anyone - the so called free media is a chimera. One day we will look back on this vacuous and blighted time with dismay and horror for being so supine and lamentable. Be inspired by watching how thing used to be back in 1984 BBC2 What Ever Happened to Spitting Image?
