A new novel by Ian McEwan.

This week I have listen to and watched Ian McEwan, and been intrigued by the inventiveness of his mind. The method of storytelling in a novel is clearly a complex process, he gets ideas and puts them into note books, and over time accumulates a plethora of possible leads. Which one to chose? His latest book has just been published Sweet Tooth. Its a spy novel set in the 1970's when the UK was having one of its regular spasms of public disillusionment with politics, and life in general. I read Saturday a few years ago and enjoyed it very much. I think I must have given it to someone as its not on my bookshelf. When asked by Kirsty Wark on the - Review Show - coming from the Edinburgh International Book Festival last night - which he thought was the greatest novel he replied - Anna Karenina. As someone who likes reading biographies and autobiographies, getting down to a novel has never been easy for me, but for McEwan I have made an exception. In the interview with Wark he implies there were some - autobiographical elements - so that's good news. So this is a book I'm looking forward to - tucking up with as the nights now draw in. I will let you know what I think in a few weeks time.
