Few cyclist achieve his distinction of winning 35 stage victories in the Tour de France. The previous record held by Eddy Merchx with 34 victories. It's very unlikely this astonishing achievement will be surpassed any time soon. It's not as if Cavendish has had an easy ride. The Netflix programme about his life, goes into detail about the severe psychological strain he put himself under in addition to that of his devoted family. For those of us who enjoy the Tour - let's take time to celebrate this milestone.
