When in a hole, stop digging.

The is an old adage, when in a hole stop digging. On Wednesday the Supreme Court of the United kingdom, dismissed the case brought by the recently sacked home secretary Suella Braverman. The Court of Appeal, similarly dismissed the case in the summer, and she was appealing against that judgement. Sunak is determined to try and pass legislation by the spring to change the law. Good luck with that policy, I don't think the House of Lords will play ball. What is the touchstone issue here? The president of the Supreme Court, Lord Reed said and I quote"there is a legal rule that refugees must not be returned to their countries of origin, either directly or indirectly, if their life or freedom would be threatened in that country". This is known legally as non-refoulement. The government is now in a real pickle, over a central plank of its immigration policy. It has two choices, either to accept gracefully the judgement, or march over the cliff and try and change the law. Good luck with that Sunak.
