A bomb thrown by Suellar.

Suella Braverman, who was sacked on Monday by Rishi Sunak, has thrown a bomb at the prime minister. In her letter she offers an extraordinary excoriating attack on his integrity and political judgement. She suggests he is guilty of "wishful and magical thinking". She is now on the back benches and at liberty to cause even more trouble, without the limits of - collective responsibility - when in government. In the past we have had resignation speeches by former cabinet ministers. One that springs to mind, is that of Sir Geoffrey Howe's, resignation speech in the House of Commons, as deputy prime minister on 15 November 1990. He lambasted the then prime minister, Mrs Thatcher for focusing on the negative relationship with our European partners. Moreover her attitude to foreign policy was causing problems throughout the continent. In the latter part of his speech he says "it's like sending the batsman to the crease, only to find the team captain had broken the bat". This was the beginning of the end of her time in Downing Street - she was forced to leave office on the 28 November 1990. Only 13 days after this historic statement. It can be seen in full on the YouTube channel  for 15 November 1990. Well worth watching -  if you want to see a Shakespearean drama - unfold before your eyes.
