Nelson and Philip.
Two lives that have had very different trajectories. One a freedom fighter and politician of world renown, the other a royal consort who has had to try and avoid saying and doing anything too political. One locked away for many years on Robben Island, the other imprisoned in an institution that allowed for little personal freedom. Nevertheless they have both led exemplary lives of duty and self sacrifice. On a superficial level they have little in common, but in terms of their respective lives, they have led them in the public domain with considerable distinction. They are in their nineties, unwell and in hospital. I hope they are able to enjoy the remaining part without too much discomfort, for eventually despite their different starts we all end in the same place. As has been said in the past "we cannot change the cards we are dealt, just how we play the hand".
