60 years ago today.
Its difficult to convey just how exciting that day was for all of us 60 years ago. It was my first experience of watching TV collectively. We as a family went to watch the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at my aunts place. We all sat around quietly as if at the service ourselves. There was a distinct sense of solemnity and reverence for this special occasion. I was 10 years old, my brother 9 and sister 14. The television age was born then for us, and we all enjoyed it. Now we have instant communication, but back then all was so slow and ponderous. Sir Winston Churchill was still PM and we were just starting to feel a bit better after the terrors of the war. As a young boy at school I received a mug and a small toy replica of the coach - which I kept for many years. So lets celebrate this very special day, and be thankful for the start of new Elizabethan age.
